Visualise Inspector Cluseau in the Pink Panther, music and all, well a plumber has the same qualities, they are investigative and love problem solving, are analytical, and are known to be deep thinkers. However, Professional Plumbers are the exact opposite of the bumbling character portrayed by Peter Sellers
Whether your geyser has burst and needs immediate attention, or your entire home has flooded, our clients are our first priority.
I will not forget last Winter during the icy months in Worcester, my client was a family who had recently brought home twins and needed hot water to bathe them, there's nothing better than helping others and seeing their instant gratitude.
This is what makes your local plumber's job worthwhile, even though we have one of the most unglamorous careers, often finding ourselves squeezing into cramped spaces, in soaring temperatures.
But what are other qualities that make a Professional Plumber?
Tip #1 - Certification
Plumbers should be qualified with accredited certification (Red Seal Certification) and they should be registered with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB).
In South Africa, plumbers must be licensed with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) in order to practice their trade legally and issue plumbing certificates of compliance (CoC)
Tip #2 - Experience
Plumbing professionals only gain experience, and their skills are sharpened by being challenged every day. The plumber's ability to adapt to new challenges will set him apart from the competition as a Professional Plumber, who repairs water pipes, and leaky toilets, and installs the entire plumbing system on building construction sites.
Tip #3 - Safety Conscious
Make sure you stay alert, wear appropriate clothing and protective gear, use the right tools, and be aware of lifting heavy tools, and ladders, and hauling geysers into ceilings.
Tip #4 - Mechanically Minded
In addition to their analytical abilities, plumbers must also understand the mechanics of the system that they're troubleshooting to find solutions to problems. Some of the mechanics and technical concepts involved in plumbing construction include understanding how the water valve works, which tubing is most suitable for certain applications, and what is the most environmentally cost-effective solution.
Tip #5 - Being on Time
Punctuality is important for anyone who is hiring a local plumber. Often clients have to leave work to open their homes to allow access. There are plumbing emergencies and being punctual is certainly a professional plumbing quality.
Tip #6 - Good Communication Skills
A professional plumber will need to analyze the problem, communicate this to the homeowner and make recommendations to the customer.
Ultimately, a plumber should be friendly, detail-oriented, and a perfectionist with pride in their work.
It's a wrap for this week's Blog, and now for a splash of plumber's humour.
