With Winter in full swing, and load-shedding in South Africa adding to the cold grip, there's one thing that we all look forward to. And that's having a hot relaxing bath or body rub with hot steaming water from your shower.
But now we all have to increase our thermostats to accomplish those luxuries that some of us have gotten used to. Which obviously isn't ideal as our electricity bills are skyrocketing. Remember the days when we were told to wrap a blanket around our geyser to buy a geyser blanket? Now just about everyone in the Western Cape is having their geysers replaced, which most household insurance covers.
So, after having installed up to 42 geysers in about 2 months for a company that I work for. I now know what our customers get to experience. The water differs completely from hot water that comes out of an old rusty geyser. First, have you ever seen what an old rusty geyser looks like? All adjectives are negative, especially when a geyser has burst and you get to see the water inside. I can't even post a photo as it's so unpleasant. Enough said.
So, I installed our new geyser in our cottage, and now I know what my customers rave about.
#1: First Impressions
The water gets hotter quicker. Saving on electricity.
The hot water in a new geyser feels softer on the skin as the manufacturers use stainless steel as opposed to the old copper-nickel mix. The stainless steel casing also comes with thermal foam wrapping.
Your hair is also in for a treat, no more rusty toxic chemicals and instead pure clean hot water.
The color of your bath water and showers is a lot crisper and clearer, more pure and clean.
#2: Plumbers Choice - Tecron Copper Geyser 150L
The Tecron 150L 400 kPA Solar Geyser is by far my choice in solar geysers and why? Because copper doesn't rust at all. And it is heat resistant, so gets even hotter than a stainless steel heating tank. So you can visualize your entire family bathing in sparkling clean water for more than a generation. And your kitchen water will also be iron-oxide-free.
#3: Specifications
It will cost you around R9 500, but it's worth it when you know that Tecron Cylinders are standard SABS-approved elements and thermostats, so there's no problem with locating parts if replacing is necessary.
Personally, I think the baked enamel makes this geyser one of the most stylish-looking water heating tanks on the market.
This product is locally made and is eco-friendly and comes with a 7-year guarantee.
#4: The Final Score
Since copper is naturally corrosion-resistant and is used in its natural state for making geysers, copper geysers have been shown to have the greatest lifespan.
A copper geyser doesn't require routine maintenance, such as changing the anode.
And if you're wondering what the heck an anode is, it's a crucial component in your water heating tank. It is a lengthy metal rod that passes through the tank's interior and is composed of aluminum or magnesium. Through an electrochemical process, it draws iron, limestone, or other mineral-containing particles from the water and corrodes in place of the tank.
So that's it from me at AquaFlow Plumbing.
I nearly forgot about our plumber's humor.
I can't say that plumbing is a tankless job cause my clients are really happy with our work. And thank you to that sweet lady in Worcester, who gladly offered us naartjies off her tree in the garden, and other citrus farmers in the Breede Valley who have been kind and generous. This job isn't too dusty or rusty, nor does it stink.
